🎹 . #tbt to my first and only visit to the Rietvlei Nature Reserve so far. If you live in Johannesburg or Pretoria and you need a spontaneous break in nature, Rietvlei is amongst the places to go. It’s certainly not the Kruger but it’s perfect for a nice day out with friends and family. Have you been? Ps.: one of my personal favourite images was taken in Rietvlei. #tb to one of my favourite places in the world. This panorama was taken on our latest trip to the incredible #blackrhinolodge in the PNP. It was on our last game drive that our guide decided to surprise us with a trip to this lookout point which is a good two hours away from the lodge. . What made it so special is, that even though we didn’t see too many animals that morning, we were were spoilt rotten with a beautiful sunrise and the breathtaking landscapes Pilanesberg has to offer. When we arrived at the lookout point we had a cup of coffee, rusks and a good chat with our guide. On the left you can see Mankwe Dam and Makorwane Dam. Both of them were rather empty due to a bad drought. . As wildlife photographer I enjoy nothing more than seeing as many animals as possible when visiting game parks. I think we all do. However, there are days were you end up being on a drive for a long time and all you get to see is a few bucks or birds. But that’s ok. There is still so much to see if you just take a look around. Being in the midst of wilderness and being able to absorb its beauty is what also matters to me. Do you agree?
Eurasian Coot (Fulica atra)⠀ ⠀ Discover the Wild (Episode 4):⠀ The Eurasian Coot is able to compress its feathers and squeeze out all of the air, which allows it to dive deeply and for long periods. Coots feed on pondweeds and invertebrates (Animals without a backbone such as insects, worms, spiders and others). A lot of firsts in this picture. #tbt to my first wild animal ever caught on camera. It was also one of my first photographs taken with a DSLR I had gotten not so long before. It has been my first trip to Africa and the first visit to Kruger Park. We spend the day in the park and it took us until early afternoon to complete sightings of the big five. Another first. This leopard had been spotted in a tree during the midday sun but we could barely see it. We then decided to travel down the Lower Sabie Road for a while and come back later. After a good hour of seeing absolutely nothing we turned around in the hopes of getting a better view of this beauty. We could see cars parked all over the place from a distance and immediately knew it had to be the leopard. Once we were close enough, we could see him resting in the thicket. Great memories.
